Healing Mandala – Sand Painting – Live “Exhibition”<\/h3>\n

From all the artistic traditions of Tantric Buddhism, that of painting with colored sand ranks as one of the most unique and exquisite. Millions of grains of sand are painstakingly laid into place on a flat platform over a period of days or weeks. The sand-painted mandala is used as a tool for healing and re-consecrating the earth and its inhabitants.<\/p>\n\t

Both the opening and closing ceremonies are not to be missed. Mark your calendars.<\/strong><\/p>\nOpening Ceremony<\/strong>
\nTuesday, December 13th 11:00am – Noon
\nThe monks will consecrate the gallery space at Stormwater and call forth the forces of goodness through chanting mantras. The construction of the mandala begins with the drawing of the Medicine Buddha Mandala.\nClosing Ceremony<\/strong>
\nSaturday December 17th
\n11:00 – Noon
\nThe mandala will be open for final viewing\nNoon – 1:00pm<\/strong>
\nSand mandalas are deconstructed shortly after their completion. This is done as a metaphor of the impermanence of life. The sands are swept up and placed in an urn; to fulfill the function of healing, half is distributed to the audience at the closing ceremony, while the remainder is carried to a nearby body of water, where it is deposited. The waters then carry the healing blessing to the ocean, and from there it spreads throughout the world for planetary healing.\n\t\t\t\t\"Buddhist\n\t\t\t\t\"On\n\t

Sales of merchandise raise funds for the 3,500 Drepung Loseling monks residing in the refuge community in India.<\/p>\n\t

Noon Lectures\/Workshop<\/h2>\nAll Lectures\/Workshops are held at Stormwater’s neighbor, the Cathy Novinger Girl Scout Leadership Center – 1107 Williams St, Columbia, SC 29201<\/a>.
\nLectures are approximately one hour in length, followed by a question\/answer period.\n

The experiential Mindful Mandala Workshop is approximately one and a half hour in length. All materials are supplied but please bring your own lunch  Preregistration is required. Pay what you can: suggested amount $75.<\/p>\n\t
